Over the past several decades, NGOs (Non-Governmental Organizations) have become major players in the field of international development. Most of the NGOs are working on activities to relieve suffering, promote the interests of the poor, protect the environment, provide basic social services, or undertake community development.
The NGO sector has become increasingly professionalized over the last two decades with principles of altruism and voluntarism.
NGOs are mushrooming in Nepal. There are approximately 6,000 NGOs recognized by the Government. It is estimated that more than 15, 000 NGO’s are working in various sectors all over Nepal.
NGOs have contributed significantly in areas of children’s rights, women’s rights, and girl trafficking, economic development, human resources and infrastructure development, agricultural development and environmental protection.
